A Weekend in New Orleans, the Big Easy!
Plan the perfect New Orleans weekend trip to the Big Easy with our travel blog tips. Explore the best food, music, and culture in NOLA

What’s better than a weekend in New Orleans? The Big Easy offers so much. From beignets, to Jazz music and Bourbon street, New Orleans is such an amazing place! Here is our plan for the perfect weekend trip to the Big Easy. Explore the food from great restaurants and all the wonderful music history in New Orleans.
Another weekend in a different city for a Raiders game versus the New Orleans Saints. Of course our first stop in New Orleans was Cafe Du Monde for their famous beignets. Just a heads up they only accept cash, and since we only had cards, we couldn’t get them. We were already across the street from Jackson Square, so we walked around the park and saw St. Louis Cathedral. I got coffee from French Truck Coffee which was one of my favorite places to go on this trip. We finally got our beignets at Cafe Beignet. They had a little outdoor courtyard so that was a fun place to eat and people watch.
We started exploring the city and saw the New Orleans Musical Legends Park which also had a Cafe Beignet funny enough, but this courtyard was so amazing. There were statues of the musical legends that shaped New Orleans jazz music. We found our way to the Mississippi River and came upon the New Orleans Aquarium. We wanted to see the otters, but unfortunately that exhibit wasn’t open. I feel like New Orleans has a ton of night life activities, but not as much during the day, so this was a cool place to see.
We had lunch and cocktails at The Monteleone Hotel to see the Carousel Bar. There was a long line, and luckily we made the cut to sit on the carousel. This was such an incredible experience because the carousel spins (very slow) as you are having your meal. I recommend getting in line as early as possible if you want a spot on the carousel. As soon as we left, people jumped into our seats. We ordered sliders and truffle fries which were amazing, I would definitely go again.
We took a tour of the Sazerac House Distillery to learn about the Sazerac drink that is famous in New Orleans. This distillery was really interactive and the package I selected included three drink samples to try. There are different packages available with various drink options. The tour covers the history of bitters originating in an apothecary and how it was transformed into something that is now included in a variety of cocktails.

Saturday morning, we went to Fourth Wall Coffee and Bar which was my dream cafe. The front is a cafe, and as you walk to find a table, there is a bar that comes to life at night, followed by a courtyard in the very back. Plants and flowers surround the restaurant, and it was very peaceful to relax before a busy day.
Have you ever wanted to take a swamp tour? I wanted nothing more than to see gators in their natural habitat. We took the Airboat Adventures Boat in Lafitte. It was an overcast day, so we didn’t get to see too many gators, but when given marshmallows they come out of the water. It was a trek to get out there, but a boat on the bayou was the epitome of New Orleans. The tour we booked even had an albino gator at the check in shack.
Next on the list was to explore Bourbon street at night. It was Halloween weekend, so the people were out and about everywhere! It was insanely crowded, but we navigated the streets and stopped in a few bars. Crazy costumes and people were crowding the streets! There were a few different bars that we checked out, all with Halloween decorations of course!
The next day was gameday, so off to Caesars Superdome! The stadium is huge, and it was fun to see, but unfortunately, this game did not end in our favor.
New Orleans during Halloween weekend was one fantastic getaway in the Big Easy that I will never forget. Going back to explore more of New Orleans is something we definitely aim to do one day! Go here for more tips on visiting New Orleans https://www.neworleans.com/
