There are many beautiful hotels and apartments to stay in Paris. It is important to select an arrondissement to stay depending on what you want to see and do. Arrondissements are districts inside the city, Paris has 20 arrondissements. We have stayed in the 1st Arrondissement and the 7th Arrondissement.

For long stays of 2 weeks or more, we prefer to get an apartment. When looking for a place there are several deciding factors to take into account, here is how to decide on the best place to stay for your trip:

  • location

  • transportation (train station, buses, etc.)

  • safety of the neighborhood

  • the host

  • number of rooms/bathrooms, outdoor space, lift/stairs, kitchen, and washer/dryer

  • cancellation policy and additional fees

Make a list of what's important to you. Also, we look for Superhosts usually as they have very good reviews and tend to have the check in/out down. We communicate with the host several times and usually look for someone with a place of their own that they are renting instead of someone with many places. I also like to ask if we will meet them in person or if it is a property manager or someone else we will meet.

Both of the apartments we rented for long stays were good, but they did have some quirks. Neither had a lift so we did carry our luggage up six flights of stairs. One was exceptionally clean with the other having eclectic furniture. In one apartment the floor was slanted and I felt like I was going to fall out of bed at night, it was built in the 1700's. In the second apartment that we rented the mattress was on the floor with a very low ceiling and no curtains in a bathroom and bedroom. We had to improvise. Below are pictures of the views we had as well as the nicely stocked food and wine left for us by the host.
