Experience the best of Scotland in Pitlochry! Things to See and Do in Pitlochry, Scotland
Pitlochry is a small town in the Perthshire area of Scotland. Why visit a small town? Well Pitlochry has an amazing mixture of stunning scenery with the mountains, river and nearby forest. It is also known for its dam and fish ladder, festivals and distillery.
It was fairly easy to get to this quaint little town of approximately 3,000 people. One of the reasons we selected Pitlochry was to see the local culture and meet the local people of this area. Even though it can be touristy (but less so than the larger cities) we were able to meet several locals and have fun conversations with them.
There are a number of interesting things to do and see in Pitlochry. The town is very walkable, however if you want to do some hiking or see some of the outlying areas you will need to arrange transportation. I suggest going to the information/visitor center on 22 Atholl Rd. They are super friendly and have plenty of maps and transportation information available.
Here are the best things to see and do in Pitlochry:
1. Pitlochry Dam & Fish Ladder
2. Queen’s View
3. Ben-Y-Vrackie
4. Craigower Hill
5. Black Spout Woods Walk
6. Blair Athol Distillery
7. Pitlochry Golf
8. Highland Games (May-September)
9. Loch Dunmore
10. Tay Forest Park
11. Blair Castle
12. The Hermitage
While we were there for four days, my husband was sick so we had to cancel our plans for the hikes and the forest. However, we were able to do the Pitlochry Dam & Fish Ladder walk which took about 45 minutes around the River Tummel. As we wandered the banks of the Loch in Scotland, another one of our travel dreams came true! This is really such a stunning and incredible area to experience the best of what Scotland has to offer.
Trainline was used from Edinburgh to Pitlochry.
